A question about this build...isn't the tactics attribute supposed to deal with shield skills? But a hammer warrior is two handed right? Wouldn't that eliminate the use of a shield?

I'm newb so I might be confused, thanks for the clearup.

What about the the Earth/Tactics defensive style warrior, with some sword abilities?
Healing Signet
Ward Vs. Melee
Bonetti's Defence
Armor of Earth and/ or Kenetic Armor
Deadly Ripote /w gash or Ripote
Hundred Blades
Final Thrust
and if they decide to include it eventually Conjure Earth would help offensivly.

For a War/Nec build, i've seen people post threads with the attributes Swordsmanship, Tactics, and Blood Magic...but why not Strength???

Some people just don't use strength.

A while ago, it used to add 2% armor penetration to your attacks. [yes, attacks...]

Then they dropped it to 2% per attack skill.

Now it's just a 1% armor penetration bonus to your attack skills.

In short, if you want to do 11-12% bonus armor penetration with your skills OR get tons of hp back from the pain series of skills, then you go strength.

I don't use too many attack skills so I'm fine with 7+1 in my strength.

Others use those points for other tings I guess.

Strength is popular because in pvp the tactics won't always cut it. Warriors naturally have a low energy regen and alot of the tactics cost energy. Also even with a 1% armor pentration bonus it's still nice for a 10ish% per hit.
It's simple that tactics for staying alive, in a deep PVP situation or even some PVE areas, you're going to rely on monks or enchantments to stay alive.

How do you tell whether you were meant for strength or tactics?
In PVP, I'd say 90% of the time a good strength/axe build can beat a tactics/sword silly. Out of my experience, a 1v1 situation, axe will win.

Anyway, as reponse to Chappy's msg, i have no exact idea but i have a theory.
Blood magic involves sacrificing hp half of the time, so if they're not built to go all out frenzy style. Tactic's could help them survive better despite their hp disadvantage.

I haven't experimented with builds yet so none to post. However, i just think as a tip that people experimenting with pvp war builds need to focus on power. Warriors tend to be the last-aimed characters so there's no point for that Bonetti's or shield stance while everybodies chasing your monks and mesmers down. What you need to do is cripple and use the dmg bonus against escaping foes to your advantage. If nobodies attacking you, whats stopping you from taking advantage of the warrior's stable damage output?

i am wondering if i should lower smittingand raise healing and strength?. i heard that i really need to use judges insight and other smitting so i got that on for now. basically i want a character that can get into the middle of it and whip some arse, yet be able to live if the monk is bad (like alot of them are). also want to ber able to make him hold his own in the guild wars and HOH.

this is my set up for warrior monk
healing prayers 8
smiting 10
protection 2
strength 10
hammer 11
tactics 2

i am lvl 20

using major absorbtion
minor tactics
major vigor
minor hammer
minor strength

my health is 544

i use hammer:
suddering giant slayers hammer of fortitude
blunt dmg: 19-35
damage 14% when health above 50%
health +23
armor penetration +10% chance 6%
damage +20%

main skills:

sprint
mighty blow
devastating hammer
beserker stance
power attack
judges insight
orison of healing (will trade this up time to time)
resurrect

This was the first thing i noticed on your build, you have no elite skill and insted there's a orison of healing. I am aware than you're changing it around to see what fits, but if i may, i'd suggest healing hands or shield of regeneration if you're planning on a healing (That's also elite).

I got a q, when making a W/El which is the best spell type to use?

Fire
Water
Air
Earth

I was thinking to go either fire, air or water since they all have conjure spells wich is quite usefull to do alot of damage. But which one of those three?

For PvP... I'd say water on an W/El.

You have conjure frost available to boost damage... cold damage isn't so common that people guard agianst it (like they do fire and lightning).

You have a lot of utility buffs like armor of mist and ward against harm. (which does more than just buff you with +armor).

Also importantly lots of snares... very important when the target feels like running all over creation to make you chase him. Seriously.. nothing is stopping a warrior from using water trident as his elite... you're running away.. I don't think so... trident *whack, target on back*... rough him up a little. Seriously, my biggest problem I find when playing melee against good opposition is people trying to run away... so having a speed boost or a snare becomes important.

Earth... no conjure available... big minus. you already have tons of armor... more armor just means people attack someone else on your team. PB AoE's... nice but you don't have the energy. Though hammer + aftershock can be a nice combo... and hammer can use the +defense.. but not at the cost of speed which it often has. Like water.. if you take this it's for the utility stuff like wards to buff others, and not for yourself.

Air... not much utility for a warrior... weakness doesn't help you much... blind okay can help in a warrior duel... but you're more concerned about smashking squishies. Really don't know just what you're after with that element. Air is also one of the most energy intensive... and your a warrior you don't have that much energy.

Fire... lots of PB AoE's.. but you don't have the energy to use them again. Conjure can help. No real utility to be found here. Glyph plus mark of rodgart paired with conjure flame and a fiery sword could be a help though. (mid-rank flame will get you a 2s burn... and you should have no problem hammering the target every 2s with a sword or axe to keep that 7 pip health degen burning sensation going.

So in order of my preference I'd say... water, fire, earth, then lightning.

To who ever said Hammer sucks, you have no idea how hammer works. Hammer needs high player skill to be successful, too bad 70% warriors are idiot. and experienced warriors probably wont try it out too cause hammer sucks untill you get Elite Hammer skills.

Illusionary Weaponry will not work for a warrior will it? The skills are not stackable because it state "You do not damage in Melee", so this negates sword effects, and any skills you may use correct?

If what I hear is correct, it works with disrupting chop/blow and perhaps savage slash. And cyclone axe. But yes, you won't get added damage.

No such thing. It would be awesome if there was but there is only conjure frost, lightning, and flame.
